Oh Mr. T, you’ve muddled up some things….again!!
We took Versace to puppy school before all of his injections were finalized. They encourage that, for early socialization.
Mrs. Alpha explicitly made a point of no interaction with anyone – human or animal- before the injections had been completed at 16 weeks (and you’re supposed to wait a week so that the vaccinations have taken effect, so I was told on our first visit to the park, the day of the 16 week injection).
I was anxious about puppy school because I was worried about what my baby might catch – children are notorious for passing on germs, so what about puppies? And Mrs. Alpha had given me very explicit details and vivid imagery on what is likely to happen if I didn’t follow her instructions ……
Faced with guilt and potential humiliation should word get out of going against Mrs. Alpha’s advice, I made a point of agreeing to puppy school on the condition that all participants were up to date with vaccinations. I was assured that that would be the case, so we were happy to go ahead.
On our first day it was I who boasted of Versace’s dominance …….dominence in the sense of ‘leader of the pack’. Versace was a little older than Edward….at least 4 weeks as I recall it it was their 3rd Dobermann. They said that their boy was also a dominant dog, so we were interested in how things would fall into place. They were little puppies, Versace about 14 weeks at the time, so I most certainly didn’t anticipate any issues, just filled with curiosity!
As we entered I double checked that all were current with vaccinations…..phew, all were, and I relaxed.
Edward was up and running as soon as the puppies were released and within minutes he was ‘leader of the pack’. He was big, broad, and active. Versace on the other hand, as Mr. T said was under my chair, shivering. Can you blame him? He didn’t have a great time of it with his litter mates so he was raised separately, in the yap of yuxury as I like to say! He was so cute hiding under the chair, and in his defense and knowing his little personality I can honestly say he was ‘observing’. He was good at that!
And he noticed a very blond Labrador named Angel under her chair too, ‘observing’. He introduced himself and they had their own party happening as they were smitten with each other. He grew very fond of Labradors as playmates after that, maybe searching for his first love, Angel. Shame we didn’t keep in contact. Once Versace worked out the game – run with the group – he adapted quite well. So pleased with himself he pee’d and then all the puppies followed suit! That was a real laugh, and I am sure he worked out how to draw attention to himself by peeing at puppy school because he did it just about every time despite going to the toilet before we started! Little Larrikin in the making!
